                        February 2012

Some good news - Zion is healing beautifully from that broken shoulder, and honestly, you'd never know it had been injured. The hair is growing back, he is moving beautifully - we couldn't ask for a better outcome. He is 97 pounds of bouncing, happy boy.

In addition, Zion has passed his heart tests with flying colors (osculation and ultrasound), and we've just updated his rabies so he's good to cross the Canada/US border for the 2012 NATIONALS. We're within driving distance this year (albeit a long one), so Zion can come this time.

                        November 2011

Zion (Ch. Elance Beyond the Blue) broke his shoulder blade! While we just heard the screaming and ran out to find him in trouble, it appears he may have jumped down from the top of his dog  house (he loves to hang out there, like his mom), and landed wrong (it was pitch dark out). We won't ever know for sure, but in any event, he's had a surgery to wire his shoulder blade together, and we are hoping for a complete recovery. He's chilling out on his comfy bed in his expen, and only getting out (on leash) for his regular potty breaks. That's pretty much his life for awhile, until he's deemed fit to resume more activity. He's not minding it so far. How he feels in another 4 weeks may be a different matter!

On a positive note, Zion's OFA certificate for his DM clear test came in the mail.

                        Zion's healing shoulder...

                        Picture
10 days post surgery, the day after the wrap came off. A little Frankenstein-ish, don't you think? LOL! He's not yet putting much weight on it, but that will come. In the meantime, he is bored, bored, bored, having to live in an ex-pen 24/7 for his healing. The dog bed has become a casualty....

                        OCTOBER 2011
                        Puppy Plans underway!

                        Picture
Brenna HAS BEEN BRED! Her surgical AI with the frozen semen from the lovely New Moon King's Ransom took place October 30th! If we are blessed enough to have this work, then new babies are expected around New Year's. We are very excited at this pairing of two lovely hounds. See our Breeding Plans page for details.

Also, another DM test has come back NORMAL. Brenna is DM Normal. Ryder's results are the next to come.

Zion (Ch. Elance Beyond The Blue) went to the AKC shows at Spruce Meadows, as a 19 month old out-of-coat young gun. Much to our delight, both Michael Hill and Eugene Blake found him in a large entry of mature/coated specials. They awarded him BOB at the AKC all breed,  and BOS in the Foothills Gazehound Specialty.

LOMPOC DEBUT: RYDER WINS HIS SPECIALTY CLASS AND MORE

                        Picture
Ryder, "Elance Black Swan," not only won his Borzoi Club of California Specialty Class under judge Patti Neale, but he repeated the win under judge Allan Pepper, at the Lompoc Kennel Club show the same weekend. For such a baby, his very first weekend out, he showed like a pro!

At the coursing trial, he showed us some KEEN interest - while he wasn't able to have a turn this time, he went wild over the lure. We are eager to see him get out and after that bunny!
